Lambda raised $1 billion of private debt for Nvidia chips

Bloomberg reported that Lambda raised about $1 billion of short-dated private debt arranged by JPMorgan. The money will finance Nvidia chips tied to Lambda's work with Microsoft. TechCrunch reported that Lambda will buy the chips and lease the computing capacity to Microsoft.

The reports rely on unnamed people, and the companies have not published the debt terms. Chip values, customer concentration, delivery schedules, and lease length determine whether the financing holds up. Short-term debt against fast-aging hardware can get expensive if demand or resale values weaken.

EU researchers tested AI for disease surveillance

The European Commission's Joint Research Centre said its prototypes worked through thousands of outbreak reports, news reports, and other EIOS records. The prototypes extracted and organized epidemiological information. The work produced an epidemiology knowledge graph and compared in-context learning with fine-tuned models.

This is exploratory prototype work, not a deployed surveillance system. It also does not show a measured improvement in public-health outcomes. The JRC said wider use needs human review, validation, bias controls, shared data formats, and a phased rollout. Expanded digital surveillance also creates privacy and civil-rights risks.
